However, due to the law of diminishing returns, it is taking more and more GPU power to produce significant improvements in graphics. ![]() I will admit it's a bigger leap than the WiiU. Now, I know that there will be angry people screaming at me saying that 6 to 10 times the power is a HUGE leap. My calculations show that the GPUs in the PS4 and the XBox 720 may be around 6 to 10 times as powerful as the last generation. They both seem to have a weak GPU, about half as powerful as a high end card. However, they both seem to have one major downfall. They will use better technology than today's consoles. They will have more bandwidth than today's consoles. They will have far more RAM than today's consoles. There are a few things I see that are working in favor of the PS4 and the XBox 720. I'll just go into hybernation for a few more years, and rarely visit this forum until the PS5 and the XBox 1440 come out. Because if they can't produce such graphics, I'm honestly not interested in them. What I am curious about, is how close the next generation consoles will come to producing such a graphics. I mean graphics that are not perfect, have clear differences from reality, but to the human eye look 99.9% as good as a photograph. However, I think it is possible for near photo realistic graphics to be produced at a far lower cost. I recognize that true photo realistic graphics cannot be reached without systems that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now, I need to specify what I mean by near photo-realistic, before some person complains that I'm an ignorant idiot and this thread should be closed. That is their ability to push past the "uncanny valley" and produce near photo-realistic graphics. There is only one thing that matters to me when it comes to video game consoles. (I, personally, recommend RealLifesis_ToD2.exe.(I wonder how long this topic will stay up.) ![]() Under Vista install it by selecting "Run as Administrator" (right-click). ("D:\Crysis" for example)ĥ) After the installer is finished and exits, browse to your game folder.Ħ) Open your Crysis folder and browse to the subfolder "\Game\Levels".ħ) You should see the following list of files in there: RealLifesis_Blink1.exe, RealLifesis_Blink2.exe, RealLifesis_FG1.exe, RealLifesis_FG2.exe, RealLifesis_ToD1.exe, RealLifesis_ToD2.exeĨ) Choose one of these files to install the ToD modification Real Lifesis. In order to get Crysis to look as nice as that on your PC as well, just follow these step-by-step instructions:ġ) Install Crysis (the location/directory does not matter).Ģ) Download the installer for Real Lifesis, here.ģ) Start the installer by double-clicking it.Ĥ) Click on "Accept" and then "browse", in order to select the folder in which you installed Crysis. ToD stands for "Time of Day" and by using a custom one, Real Lifesis basically alters the whole atmospheric lighting to make Crysis look much more realistic. Therefore, Hawkeye|Puppy had set himself this main goal: "I have set the task of creating a Full-Day Time of Day file, that brings Crysis as close to photorealism that you can get." Have a look and decide for yourself, whether he was able to succeed or not: ![]() What's so special about this, you ask? Well, this is not your standard configuration file that tweaks a few settings (although there comes one included with this mod, too), but it is a so-called "ToD modification". Today, I am presenting you one of these mods, called: Real Lifesis, developed by Hawkeye|Puppy over at Crytek's official modding portal, Crymod. Besides that or maybe because of that, there exists a very active modding community for it, creating configuration files to squeeze additional fps out of it, building custom maps, or other mods to change the look and feel of the game. Today, it is still a very popular game, partially because of its expansion Crysis Warhead, and more than likely since hardware is finally catching up to the insane amounts of polygons this game is able to draw on your screen, too. About one and a half years ago, Crytek shocked the PC gaming world with its first-person shooter Crysis - not only with its beautiful and impressive graphics, but also with hardware requirements which were both out of this world.
